Introduction to Backyard Birding with Scott Kruitbosch
Saturday, February 9 10-11 a.m.
The program has been canceled due to the winter storm.
Most everyone knows what a Northern Cardinal looks like, but can you tell the difference between a Purple Finch and a House Finch when they arrive at your feeder?
The Center at Fairfield is offering a “Winter Birding for Beginners” program with an emphasis on how to recognize the birds that spend the winter in our backyards. Participants will learn the basics of bird identification, how to identify local birds and discover some of their interesting characteristics, their field marks, vocalizations, behavior, food and habitat choices. This walk and talk through the Larsen Sanctuary is an ideal opportunity to see an excellent variety of birds along the trails and near the water features as well as feeder species found at the Center’s feeders. The program is lead by Scott Kruitbosch, CAS’s Conservation Technician. Scott is a life long Connecticut resident who was introduced to birding as a child by his father and grandfather. His first step towards becoming a bird expert was watching his backyard feeders with binoculars and field guide in hand.
This program is free but donations are appreciated. Register in advance by calling 203-259-6305 ext. 109.
