Sun., Oct. 10, 10 a.m. & 2 p.m.

Bring family and friends and join Connecticut Audubon Society staff for a leisurely, two-hour walk along the trails that Edwin Way Teale and his wife Nellie named at their former home, Trail Wood in Hampton.  Learn how Monument Hill got its name, why the Old Colonial Road is a part of Connecticut’s history, what the writing cabin was for and how and why the Teales named the places they traversed almost daily on their 168-acre homestead. Meet in the Visitor’s Parking Lot at 93 Kenyon Road in Hampton. The walk is recommended for those 8 years and older (children must be accompanied by an adult) who are accustomed to hiking two or more miles. Free although donations are always appreciated.

New Service Offered: Bird Surveys on Private or Public Property. Sanctuary Manager Andy Rzeznikiewicz is available to survey the bird population of your property and provide guidance on how to best manage it for birds. Private property owners, Land Trusts, Towns or other groups that want an inventory of what birds are breeding or using their property should consider this service, as should conservation groups that are evaluating potential land purchases. The best time of year to conduct nesting bird surveys is May and June. Call early to schedule a Bird Survey as the calendar fills up quickly this time of year: 860-928-4948.
