Panelists Chosen for March 14 Forum in Glastonbury
Rachel Caldwell, a local college student and a Connecticut Audubon Society volunteer, has joined the panel for our March 14 community forum in Glastonbury, “Where Is the Next Generation of Conservationists Coming From?”
Our recent Connecticut State of the Birds 2012 report will serve as the basis of the discussion, which will focus on the question of whether we are doing enough to get our children outdoors and the longer-term implications for conservation.
The report found that unless our schools, environmental organizations and government agencies put more effort into outdoor education and environmental education, the next generation will not have the commitment and connection to the natural world necessary to continue essential conservation work.
The March 14 community forum will consist of a round-table discussion led by Milan Bull, senior director of science and conservation for Connecticut Audubon Society. The panel will also include Michelle Eckman, director of education for CAS; Courtney MacDonald, director of the Land Heritage Foundation, which works to protect open space including farmland; Sandee Brown, a retired science teacher from Hebron, Ct.; and Joseph Sands, a middle school student who has worked as a volunteer animal caretaker for the CAS Center at Glastonbury.
The event is set for 7 to 9 p.m. on March 14. It is free and open to the public, but space is limited. Please email tandersen@ctaudubon.org to reserve a seat.
