Bull Moose
The photos of moose in Goshen that we posted on our blogs yesterday drew more than a thousand pageviews, and also prompted an email from Andrew LaBonte, a wildlife biologist with the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. Andrew is based in North Franklin. He had been working with our previous conservation biologist, Twan Leenders, tracking moose in Goshen, on our Richard G. Croft Memorial Preserve.
Here’s part of what he wrote (Thanks, Andrew!):
I spent some time on the property and searched for moose via helicopter a couple years back with assistance from [Twan] when we were looking to capture and collar moose. We’re essentially done with that project, but we continue to track moose sightings from around the state. … I have a radio collared bull that was recently observed just down the road from the sanctuary that you might get a glimpse of, and please let me know if you do. You probably have already seen it, but I attached a photo of a large bull from a couple years ago Twan had sent me.
That would be this, taken by our motion-activated trail camera at 6:37 p.m. on December 11, 2010 (note that it was 33 degrees F):
Here are a few others, taken this year (all photos are copyright Connecticut Audubon Society):
