Roger Tory Peterson Estuary Center presents Season of the Osprey filmmaker in live Zoom

Filmmaker Jacob Steinberg.

March 15, 2022 — Connecticut Audubon’s Roger Tory Peterson Estuary Center is presenting  a free, interactive Zoom presentation on Thursday, April 7, at 6 p.m.: An evening with filmmaker Jacob Steinberg, producer and director of the PBS Nature program Season of the Osprey.

Participants will hear behind the scenes stories and will be able to ask questions about the creation of this extraordinary documentary, filmed over seven years primarily in Old Lyme’s Great Island Marsh. Season of the Osprey has been called “dazzling” and “the best footage of Osprey flying, fishing and at the nest that I have ever seen” by Dr. Alan F. Poole of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.

Steinberg will also talk about his distinctive storytelling approach to documenting the natural world, one of the reasons that Season of the Osprey is not only a stunning nature film but a compelling nature story as well:

“From somewhere along the east coast of South America, an osprey has just flown 4000 miles to a small saltmarsh at the delta of the Connecticut River, the place that is imprinted on his memory since birth and where he will rejoin his mate. Over the course of one summer, the reunited osprey pair fends off enemies, hunts hundreds of fish, and raises their chicks into the next generation of aquatic raptors.” (https://www.seasonoftheosprey.com/)

The program is free but registration is required. After registering, participants will receive an opportunity to view the film. For more information and to register, click here.
