Connecticut Audbon Society

Robert B. Braun, former Board president, 1928-2023

The Board and staff of Connecticut Audubon were saddened to learn of the death of Dr. Robert B. Braun of Fairfield on December 26, at age 95.

Bob served as member and president of Connecticut Audubon’s Board of Directors in the 1970s and 1980s. A skilled birder and naturalist from boyhood on, he was a frequent and welcome presence on Connecticut Audubon field trips well into the 21st century.

His introduction to Connecticut Audubon came as a teenager when, while visiting Birdcraft Sanctuary in Fairfield, he was invited by curator Frank Novak into theworkshop to watch and learn how to mount bird specimens.

With his late wife Nancy, he undertook to identify every plant drawn by John James Audubon in his 435-plate Birds of America, and published it as An Audubon Corcordance — Migration Through the Plate Numbers.

Details about his fascinating life—including his exodus from his native Austria at the outset of World War II—can be found in his obituary.

We send our sincere condolences to his family and friends.
