Halfway through the 2024 Migration Magic Birdathon, here are the leaders

May 17, 2024 — Sixteen days of the month-long Migration Magic Birdathon have gone by. Numbers have started to add up and we’re happy to post the leaders, below.

There are many caveats. The biggest is that there are 15 days left in the Birdathon, still plenty of time. Fifty three people have submitted eBird checklists but 97 have registered for the Birdathon, so there are a lot more lists out there to be added.

Remember that Connecticut Audubon staff members are not eligible for Birdathon prizes; their names are marked by asterisks. The first four on the list all spent Monday, May 13, doing a Big Day, during which they saw 160 species, so it makes sense that they in front.

With that in mind, here’s the list. “Young Birders” are marked by two asterisks. All totals are unofficial and preliminary and will almost certainly change by the end of the month:
