Connecticut Audbon Society

Naturalist Training Program

Wednesdays: September 11 through October 30, 2024
10 a.m. – 2 p.m. (The Oct. 2 class meets from 8 to 11 a.m.)

The Naturalist Training Program provides classroom and field training over the span of eight weeks. It prepares adults of all experience levels to become naturalists in their communities and to contribute to environmental education and conservation efforts through volunteer service.

Classes are taught by field experts. Topics will include plants, birds, insects, mammals, bird banding, marine ecosystems, foraging and wild edibles and more. View the syllabus here.

Classes will take advantage of the diverse ecosystems of Connecticut Audubon’s Fairfield Region locations (Birdcraft Museum and Sanctuary, and the Fairfield Nature Center), as well as the Coastal Center at Milford Point. After completing the classes, you will be assisted with identifying ways in which you can apply your knowledge and interests to the Connecticut Audubon Society’s work and activities.

Members $275, Non-members $325 (includes a one-year Connecticut Audubon membership). This program is for ages 18 and over. Space is limited. Register here.

Please bring a water bottle, snacks/lunch, binoculars, sun hat, sunblock and insect repellent; be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and clothing appropriate for the day’s weather. Participants will need to complete a waiver. For additional information, email Tricia Kevalis or call the Fairfield Nature Center at (203) 259-6305, ext. 109.
