Winter: Saturday, December 13, 2025 – Winter can be a challenging time for birds, with limited food and water resources combined with cold and stormy conditions. Spring: Saturday, March 14, 2026 – Spring is an exciting time in Connecticut, as many of our migrating species make their way back to or through the state from wintering grounds further south. These birds have often flown hundreds or thousands of miles and need a safe place to rest and refuel before continuing further north or starting their breeding season here. Learn which plants will provide resources for birds to continue their journey or get a head start on breeding.

Summer: Saturday, June 13, 2026 – Summer in Connecticut means birds are breeding, increasing the need for insects and caterpillars to provide crucial protein for chicks. Learn which plants will host essential insects for hungry fledglings, as well as those that produce seeds for finches and nectar for hummingbirds and pollinating insects.

Fall: Saturday, September 12, 2026 – As temperatures drop and the days grow shorter, many birds begin their journey south to their wintering grounds. To prepare for these long migrations, they must build up essential energy reserves. Some birds leave Connecticut after breeding here, while others pass through on their way further south. Certain plants provide fuel for migrating birds, aiding them on their journey. Adding these plants to a yard can make a meaningful difference in supporting their migration.
