Connecticut Audbon Society

Birdcraft Sanctuary and Museum Capital Campaign Challenge!

Mabel Osgood Wright created Birdcraft as the first private songbird sanctuary in the country. It is a National Historic Landmark.

This Birdcraft Sanctuary and Museum is one of Fairfield’s greatest hidden gems. Located in the heart of downtown, Annie Burr Jennings donated the land to the CT Audubon Society in 1914, establishing one of the first private songbird sanctuaries in the United States.  The building and property have been further recognized with designation on the National Historic Registrar.

Today, we are thrilled to share that plans are underway to re-open the Birdcraft Museum with brand-new exhibits featuring some of the finest artifacts in our collection. The exhibits will continue Birdcraft founder Mabel Osgood Wrights’ vision of educating the public about birds and the importance of habitat conservation. Visitors will learn about CT Audubon’s work protecting birds and habitats in Connecticut, as well as amazing facts about birds both local and around the world and what we can do to help ensure their survival.

This modern, interactive exhibit will serve as the backdrop for a robust future of educational programming at Birdcraft and further advance the CT Audubon Society’s Mission: To protect Connecticut’s birds, other wildlife, and their habitats through conservation, education and advocacy.

As a valued supporter of our CT Audubon Society Fairfield Region, we invite you to join us as we expand and invest in an exciting future for our beloved Birdcraft Sanctuary and Museum.  Thanks to a generous $50,000 matching challenge, you can DOUBLE your support with a gift to the Birdcraft Sanctuary and Museum Initiative today.
