Birds on the Beach
Newly-hatched plovers, terns and oystercatchers are scrambling around Connecticut’s beaches these days, and our network of monitors, working through the Audubon Alliance, is continuing to keep a close eye on their progress.
It is still too early to judge whether it’s been a successful breeding year, but Piping Plovers, American Oystercatchers and Least Terns – each vulnerable and relatively rare – can be found on at least six beaches, including our Milford Point Coastal Center. You can keep up with the progress on the Audubon Alliance’s blog, here.
