Master Naturalist Training Series for Volunteers

Would you be interested in earning a Volunteer Master Naturalist Certificate at The Connecticut Audubon in Glastonbury? We are recruiting interested class participants in our Master Naturalist Certificate program. The 10 week (40 hours) program will take place every Thursday, 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., September 17-November 19, 2015, at The Connecticut Audubon Society in Glastonbury. Class size is limited, so register soon (see below)!
Topics will include (but may not be presented in this order):
1. The History and Present of The Connecticut Audubon Society statewide, environmental advocacy, and the vision and goals of the agency
2. The Connecticut Audubon Society’s science education programs and services in Glastonbury and statewide
3. The History of Earle Park and Tom’s Pond
4. Introduction to Birding
5. Connecticut’s Top Endangered and Watch List Animals and Plants, and Invasive Plants
6. The Importance of Water and Soil
7. Birds and Bird Habitats
8. Volunteering for CT Audubon in Glastonbury
9. Bird and Animal Rehabilitation in CT
10. Laws Related to Bird handling, possession of bird feathers or wild birds
11. Introductions to tree, plant, and insect identification
Last year our speakers, hike leaders and guides have included experts from DEEP, local environmental groups, CAS staff and former staff, and local universities. The cost for the program is $200 for CT Audubon members, $250 for non-members. In exchange for a greatly reduced price for this series we are requiring participants to complete a minimum of 40 hours of volunteer work in the year immediately following their training.
