Teacher-Naturalist

Connecticut Audubon Society’s Center is seeking enthusiastic, energetic educators for their part-time teacher-naturalist positions for our centers at Fairfield, Glastonbury, Milford Point and Pomfret. Our teacher-naturalists deliver our outdoor and outreach education programs, Science in Nature.

Teacher-Naturalists at the Connecticut Audubon Society are responsible for teaching outdoor and classroom natural science programs to a variety of audiences from early learners to adults.

Please Apply If You…
*       Have a minimum of 1 year teaching experience with proven skills teaching in formal and/or informal settings
*       Possess prior outdoor science education experience working with children
*       Have excellent interpersonal skills for working with teachers, administrators, children, staff and professional colleagues

Essential Functions

  • Prep and deliver interdisciplinary, conservation education programs to K-12 students
  • Assist as needed with nature-based programs for adults
  • Assist with leading merit badge programs for Boy and Girl Scouts
  • Assist with the care and maintenance of education equipment
  • Deliver high quality, safe programs creating high customer satisfaction

Qualifications

  • Minimum third or fourth-year student enrolled in bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, education, natural sciences, outdoor recreation or related field
  • Experience in environmental education, nature interpretation preferred
  • Proven skills teaching in formal and/or informal settings to a variety of audiences
  • Physical capability to accomplish the responsibilities of the position
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends
  • Commitment to the mission of the Connecticut Audubon Society

    Requirements

    • Must be comfortable teaching all programs offered
    • Must be able to handle those animals required for specific programs
    • Must be able to interface with all customers of our educational programs, teachers, administrators and parents
