Old Lyme Town Hall
This fall, the town of Old Lyme hosted Senator Richard Blumenthal along with their First Selectwoman, Bonnie Reemsnyder, for a town hall meeting about the Federal Rail Association’s proposal for a tunnel under the Connecticut River.
The Roger Tory Peterson Estuary Center was crucial to the writing of an 82-page response to the proposal, contributing research on the environmental impacts of this high-speed rail line. The submitted data suggests potential habitat damage to the federally endangered Atlantic Sturgeon population, which has returned to the river in the last few years. The RTPEC is proud to stand with Old Lyme, and to commit to protecting valuable local habitat.
The Record of Decision from the FRA on this proposal is expected sometime in March, and the RTPEC will update this page as we receive more information.
