Nature journaling nurtures both creativity and a deeper ecological awareness. It improves focus and observation skills and can promote a sense of calm and clarity. Join us for a workshop on nature journaling, where we will explore the natural world through the lens of local naturalist and writer Edwin Way Teale. The workshop will begin with a look at examples from Teale’s work, providing inspiration and insight into his observational and scientific approach to nature writing. We will take a short hike around Trail Wood, where participants will make their own observations, take notes, and sketch or photograph the sights they encounter. Concluding by sharing our observations, reflecting on the varied ways each of us experiences and documents “Where We Live” – the theme of the 2024-25 Big Read.

Want a private bird walk, away from Trail Wood? Each walk can be geared toward your expectations and locations. Andy can take you to your next “life bird,” to local hot spots, or just use his knowledge to find birds and wildlife for you. Owl walks and private Woodcock watches are very successful in small groups. This is an excellent gift for that outdoor enthusiast who has everything. This service is offered year-round. Call 860-928-4948.
Our Sanctuary Manager is available to conduct bird population surveys on your property and can provide advice on how to best manage the property for optimum bird habitat. Private property owners, Land Trusts, municipalities or other groups interested in inventorying breeding or migratory bird populations on their properties might consider this service. Conservation groups that are evaluating potential land purchases for conservation might find this service helpful as well. The best time of year to conduct nesting bird surveys is May and June. Call early to schedule as the calendar fills up fast this time of year: 860-928-4948.
