Osprey Nation Coordinator – The Connecticut Audubon Society
Compensation: based on experience
Location: remote, based out of CT
Dates: beginning of March through beginning of October (some flexibility with end date)
Schedule: 30 hours / week (4 to 5 days/ week)
The Osprey Nation project is a Citizen Science project that was launched in 2014, which aims to monitor the health of the Osprey population through collecting data on all of the Osprey nests in the state of Connecticut. All of the data is collected from our volunteer osprey stewards. This past year we had just over 340 stewards, collecting data for just over 800 nests. Many of our volunteers have been dedicating time to this project for years.
The selected candidate will be coordinating all communication between the osprey stewards, assigning nests to stewards, working with new as well as experienced stewards, enter data, organizing and compiling data, keeping the google map up to date with data, providing needed information and guidance to stewards, help provide a training to stewards(likely on zoom), problem solving any issues that arise, working on additional osprey nation projects that come up ( outreach to stewards that have boats, compiling data on the conditions of the osprey nests, uploading steward photos to website, etc.), writing final report at end of the year.
Occasional ability to go and observe osprey nests, majority of work is computer work.
What we are looking for:
- Interest and enthusiasm in working on this project and with many dedicated volunteers
- Good communication skills, mostly via email
- Proficient in excel/ google sheets
- GIS experience/ experience with google maps
- Experience with data entry, detail oriented
- Experience working with a volunteer population
- Knowledge of birds, ability to identify birds helpful
