Register for a special screening of “Mabel Osgood Wright: Pioneering Conservationist”

Help celebrate Connecticut Audubon’s 125th anniversary with a special online screening of Mabel Osgood Wright: Pioneering Conservationist, a film by Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Karyl Evans.

Wright was well known in the 1890s and for decades afterward as a leader in the bird conservation movement. She was among a small group of women from Fairfield who founded the Connecticut Audubon Society in 1898.

The 18-minute film, produced in 2021, includes rarely seen photos of Wright, and numerous photos that Wright — a prolific author and photographer — took throughout Fairfield. The filmmaker, Karyl Evans, will open the presentation with an introduction about the movie and how she made it. A Q&A will follow the showing. 

Karyl Evans has won six Emmy Awards for her documentary projects among many other national and regional awards. She has been producing and directing video projects for over 30 years on both the East Coast and the West Coast.

Karyl has worked in broadcast television nationally and locally on documentaries and multiple-part series for public television and network affiliates. Karyl also worked in Los Angeles for 5 years in feature film development and production for director Taylor Hackford, developed an animated children’s series for Showtime, and worked as a producer on a national PBS documentary.

Now, in addition to her documentary work, Karyl produces marketing spots for CPTV and videos for websites. She was a full-time professor at Southern Connecticut State University and is currently a Fellow at Yale University.
