Hartford Urban Bird Treaty

  • Creating bird-friendly cities
    The Hartford Urban Bird Treaty is a partnership among the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Connecticut Audubon and others to help make Hartford a safer and more hospitable environment for migratory and resident birds.

Hartford originally received Urban Bird Treaty designation in 2011 (the 8th city in the nation to do so) and officially rededicated the treaty in May 2023.

The Urban Bird Treaty focuses on improving habitats in places such as Keney Park and Pope Park by planting native shrubs and trees and removing invasive species.

It helps call attention to and remedy urban threats such as window collisions and light pollution.

It connects city residents to nature through education, birding, and hands-on conservation.
