Naturalist Training Program

The Naturalist Training Program provides classroom and field training over the span of nine weeks. It prepares adults with all levels of experience to become naturalists in their communities and to contribute to environmental education and conservation efforts through volunteer service.

Classes are taught by field experts and will take advantage of the diverse ecosystems of Connecticut Audubon locations, including the Fairfield Nature Center, and the Birdcraft Museum and Sanctuary in Fairfield, and the Coastal Center at Milford Point. Topics include birds, insects, mammals, bird banding, marine ecosystems, habitats and plant identification, foraging and wild edibles, and more.

Upon completing the program, participants are expected to contribute 10 volunteer hours to the organization. You will be assisted with identifying opportunities where you can apply your knowledge and interests to the Connecticut Audubon Society’s work and activities.
